Moor Amps – Musical Performance at its best
Extending the range
Following the successful introduction of our Angel-4i Integrated Amplifier in June we are now proud to launch our first DAC at the Edinburgh HI-AV show in November
The manaDAC
The manaDAC extends Moor Amps renowned amplifier techniques into the DAC, and the sound quality perfectly complements our range of amplifiers.
The manaDAC starts with our favourite DAC chip - the 1794A - with it's lovely 'vinyl-like' presentation and musical energy. Our I/V stage uses pairs of transistors on the same substrate for perfect gain and thermal matching, resulting in exceptionally low audible distortion levels.
The manaDAC uses the same low Intermodulation distortion approach and massively over-engineered power supplies as our amplifiers. In the DAC this also needed separation of supplies and ground planes to keep any digital artifacts and circulating currents completely out of the analogue section. That's why what is - on the face of it - a relatively simple DAC ended up with 3 separate mains transformers and 18 power supply regulators, 10 of which are of the ultra-low noise variety. But that's not enough, all the Analogue supplies are additionally filtered using old-fashioned L-C filters with low-ESR industrial grade capacitors, to ensure a black background noise level which doesn't intrude on the fine musical details.
The manaDAC works with PCM inputs up to 192kHz, with an electrically isolated, femto-second re-clocked USB input, plus spdif RCA and Toslink inputs for flexibilty and linking to AV systems.
Come and listen to the result, it's musically compelling, with exceptional levels of detail, impeccable dynamics and spot-on timing. It gets out of the way and delivers the music - just like our amps!
The Angel-4i Integrated Amplifier - Final Purchase Amplifier (The Ear July 2025)
Summary from the review - The Moor Amps Angel 4i has proven to be an easy amplifier to host over the last few weeks. It is a lively performer, yet a well-behaved one. The Angel 4i tells it like it is, but without compromising the musical message. It won't add pizzazz or fireworks that aren't present in your recordings, but it times superbly and sounds more intimate and focused than most. This is not to say that this amplifier lacks dynamics, far from it. Put simply, it does not exaggerate them by unnaturally highlighting leading edges. No matter how busy the signal, the amplifier stays in control and maintains its composure. The Moor Amps Angel 4i is an amplifier that I can envision being a final purchase for many, and one that should provide decades of listening pleasure. If you are looking for a dedicated analogue amplifier that gives you the musical truth, this could be just the ticket
