SL Speakers builds speakers and speaker kits for customers who desire an honest speaker that works as intended, without all the hype that is so prevalent in both the high end and low end of audio. We don't try to build a 'full range' mini speaker, our small speakers are designed to do what small speakers do best, and our big speakers, well, they just rock! With roots back to 1971, we are not a company that just hangs our name on a cheap import. In fact, other than a few parts we can't get locally, our speakers are built right here in Seattle!
SL Speakers was born out of the evolution of Speakerlab's historic speakers and speaker kits. Released in 2008, the first project was the Point1; a fully modern version of the beloved Speakerlab .1 (which itself was designed to be a more amp-friendly take on the iconic LS35A). Developed with input from all the original Speakerlab engineers, the Point1 (quickly followed by the rest of the 'Point Line') met all the updated design criteria - linear response on and off axis, point source imaging, better power handling, and deeper bass. This was followed by a much longer (and on going...) design exercise to create the Legend Series, starting with the Super Seven; a modernization of the iconic Speakerlab S7. Designed with secret input from David Graebener, the horns were replaced with planar drivers (from David's second company, Bohlender/Graebener, no surprise!) and the 10"/12" woofer system was redesigned to create our new Force Balance(tm) alignment (made possible by modern motor structures and materials). The Legends Series, like the Point Line, met or exceeded all of it's design criteria (deeper bass, better on and off axis response, etc.), and will continue to add additional models to meet the needs of the modern audiophile and home theater buff.
