The finest HiFi components in a poor room will sound mediocre, whilst good budget components in the right room can sound magnificent. Why is this? This session will introduce some basic acoustics concepts that explain why your room is the most important component in your system. We will be doing some demonstrations that show the effects of both room modes and SBIR (Speaker Boundary Interference Response) and discuss some simple methods for you to improve both your room, as well as how to model and predict the best position for your speakers and listening position.Suitable for both beginners, as well as seasoned professionals looking for a different perspective on acoustics, this session will help explain some of the science behind reproducing the recorded arts.
Jeremy Baldwin, The Right NoteYou’ve bought the kit, paid a fortune but is it delivering as it should? We reckon most systems are working at 60-70% of their potential and we’ve heard hundreds of them in customers’ homes. It’s the extra few % where the magic lies – what keeps you playing the next track until the early hours. So what should you upgrade next? – very likely not what you think! Come for 45 minutes of practical advice, perhaps your best upgrade ever.12.15pm - 1pm both daysRoom 4 - Ground floor

You’ve been asking for Jeff to return to the UKs Audio Show since 2016 when he wowed you with his amazing Vinyl session featuring Bowie and Prince, sadly both now no longer with us.Each year our show dates have clashed with other events he attends, but for 2019 we’ve gotten’ lucky and Jeff will return for another memorable Classic Album Session on Sunday the 22nd September.Jeff Lloyd has been presenting the award-winning Vinyl Frontier for 6 years now. It started, as so many ideas do, as a small Sgt Pepper-sized acorn and is now at least a sapling…Initially the idea was to present a classic album, in it’s entirety, played on a luxury hi-fi system, with added frills such as slides, video footage and a some accompanying trivia and chat from a genial host, whose grasp on the IT required was best described as ‘laughable’. 6 years later, most evenings are sold out and the IT is now described as ‘charming’.Other formats have spun off and audiences now also enjoy Album duels, 7” single championships and geographical battles such as Manchester vs Liverpool! At our event Jeff will treat us to a couple of ‘Best Of…’ sessions, playing vinyl tracks from the Beatles in one session and Elton John in another, in a nod to the recent successful feature films featuring the music of both artists. He’ll give us info on the songs, some trivia and some rare video footage thrown in for good measure. All played, of course, on a top of the range system. This will be specifically be for the Sunday only over two sessions, 11am - 12pm and 2pm - 3pm, and if anything like 2016 will be over-subscribed so if you want to be assured of a seat let us know now . . . . or it could be standing room only.Room 4 - Ground floor
