NEW YORK AUDIO & AV SHOW '12
A positive report from Bill Leebens
If any group has a right to be cynical, it's the manufacturers, distributors and retailers of the high end audio industry in America.
Hit by every economic downturn and exchange-rate correction, misunderstood by the public and the press, overlooked in favour of flashier new-tech products, the high end is made up of a hardy and quixotic group of extreme music lovers who dedicate their lives and fortunes to the goal of life like reproduction of music in the home and on the run...
So how did this group respond to the news of a new, proper audio show in New York? Not with skepticism or cynicism-- but with real enthusiasm and excitement.
The combination of a veteran team of organizers and crew, media sponsorship of the leading magazines, one of the world's great hotels, and the prospect of New York in the springtime elicited uniformly positive responses:
"If you're doing it, we're in." "I can't wait." "I loved the shows we did at the Waldorf." "This is gonna be awesome." "You guys are on a roll." "I heard that (Newport Beach) (National Audio Show UK) were great events ..."
Every new venture carries with it elements of uncertainty, traces of apprehension. What became clear at Rocky Mountain Audio Fest is that the time is right for a major audio show produced to the highest standards in New York, and that the members of the industry will support it wholeheartedly.
The New York Audio and AV Show ( The New York Show ) will be a show to remember, and the first of many to come.
