Dining

Individual likes excepted this part of Northamptonshire is surrounded by townships and villages that boast some top eating places – not forgetting that Whittlebury Hall has to be your first choice of course.  However we are all aware that it’s always nice to get away from the same environment and do some exploring and we can highly recommend the following website if you are looking for reliability and variety, as we have tried some of the restaurants they feature;

www.restaurant-guide.com

When doing your search these are the principle locations; Daventy, Northampton, Towcester and Buckingham.

The Village of Whittlebury has a very nice pub that does quality food and real ale, and has recently reopened; The Fox and Hounds run by Tony Garcia, 01327 858048.

The writer has also stayed at the Vine Hotel and Restaurant in Paulersbury which he can also recommend.  If any of our exhibitors or visitors have their own recommendations, then we would be delighted to include them here.

NATIONAL AUDIO SHOW '10

This is the show that's put new life into the UK's Audio scene, which is still one of the most important markets in Europe. Support for the National Audio Show last was magnificent and this year the show has grown again with ticket downloads reaching an all time high.

  • Extended car park for up to 1000 cars, all fully manned

  • Shuttle buses from milton keynes mainline station will now run all day from 9.00am and every ½ hour. to help us achieve this it will cost just £2 to the show and £2 back

  • Live performances from Eleanor McEvoy on the Saturday night

  • The organisers have now blockbooked the whole hotel increasing the amount of accommodation for visitors and exhibitors + surrounding bed & breakfasts and hotels if we run out of room

  • Many new to show exhibitors

  • Vastly increased food and drink facilites including two barbeques for 2010, extended bars and snack shops

  • Greatly improved signage internally so you don’t miss anything

  • More live entertainments, more lectures and media sponsored demonstrations

  • Substantially increased pre show exhibitor information + brands

BY ROAD FROM THE SOUTH/SOUTH WEST
From the M40 (18 miles) exit at J10 and take the A43 towards Northampton. Be alert for the local signage for Silverstone on your left and travel through the village then turn right following the signs for Whittlebury.  In Whittlebury turn right onto the A413 signposted Buckingham. Drive through Whittlebury village to the far side and turn right into Whittlebury Hall/Whittlebury Park.

BY ROAD FROM THE NORTH/NORTH EAST

BY ROAD FROM THE NORTH/NORTH WEST
From the M40 (18 miles) exit at J11 and take the A422 towards Brackley. At the junction with take the A43 towards Northampton and then the same instructions as the SOUTH/SOUTH WEST.

If there is an event on at Silverstone Race Circuit NAS10 traffic coming from the M1 direction will be channeled onto and into the A413, and NAS10 traffic coming from the M40 direction will be channeled towards the A5 and then again back on the A413. As an alternative, traffic travelling from the M40 direction could take the A422 to Buckingham and then pick up the A413 to Whittlebury. We are advised both by the Police and the Venue that the A413 is not normally affected by race traffic so is always the best option and approach to the venue wherever you are travelling from.

Testimonials

TESTIMONIALS?

It’s always reassuring to hear good things from people who are pleased with something and we were genuinely surprised and flattered to receive so many testimonials following last years show . . so we’d like to share a few with  you . .  and no they aren’t from Mr Smith in Croydon (with all respects to all the Mr Smiths in Croydon):

Whittlebury was a good show overall. So congrats to you guys. You were personally helpful and you showed you cared. I appreciated that. Nice location. Good atmosphere.

Kind regards,

I thought the Audio show was excellent. Very well organized and very well attended.

There were very few sales people there if any. All the people looking around were  all genuine Hi Fi enthusiasts.

For myself personally I regarded the show as a big success, we had a lot of interest from a lot of areas.

We have sold one TT already on the back of it and I have a long list of people that would like more information.

Many thanks for all your efforts.

Kind regards,

Peter Curran

I was pleased to meet you at the NAS.
Just some quick answers to your questions: to be the first edition of this show and to be the first time in this location, the impression I had was quite positive. The location is very nice, probably not so easy to reach with public transportation services, but I think this is something normal trying to avoid to make the show in any big city.

Best regards,

Stefano Blanda
Managing Director

I thought I would drop you a quick email to let you know how much we enjoyed the show a fantastic mix of gear which filled up both days listening chatting & of course drooling. I have had to get a re mortgage on the house to pay for all the audiophile vinyl I bought. I thought Jess Childe & Julian Lewis were fantastic they complemented each other really well could you send me her info so I can get some of her music (if you have it).

I have to say the drive & cost was well worth it the whole weekend was superb it must have been a nightmare organising it & your glad its over is it going to be an annual event ?.

Anyway just thought you would like a bit of feedback & thanks very much for all your hard work.

Best Regards,

Just a short note to say a huge thanks for the effort put into the NAS 09 and it’s new location this year. It was far better than being at Heathrow, and it was certainly more relaxing and enjoyable than I’ve previously experienced.

Strangely enough, I felt the chosen location gave the show greater credibility and professionalism, it didn’t have that pushy commercial edge to it that shows often have in and around London.

I had a better opportunity to settle in to some of the demonstrations in the relaxed setting. Next time I’ll probably come for the two days and stay over!

Well done and I wish you all the best for next year. I hope it was a success from your point of view. I look forward to NAS 10.

Great location, easy parking, good restaurants and bars, lots of visitors, lots of general interest, lots of friendly advise from other people in the industry and lots of press interest.

On the whole a good first show for us at A&D Audio.

Best Regards,

Just a short note from all at Nordost to say thank you for taking the very brave decision to move the show to Whittlebury.

We were very happy with our room and the attendance numbers that we had, and think that you have taken the necessary steps to providing a great UK show once more like we used to have when we attended the old “Penta” show.

I personally have already started to email our distributors to ask them to make more of an effort to attend next year as they missed a great show!

Great show – blown away with the attendance
Our room looked great – with a fantastic aspect.

Just what the trade needed.
Thank you

I’ve had to eat my words, I’m afraid.
The show far exceeded my expectations, and it was a pleasure paying you.

Just to let you know how much I enjoyed the show. I have been to the Park Inn shows for the last three years and although I find this more convenient (I fly in from Edinburgh) the NAS show was very much better - loads to see and hear. Thanks for a most enjoyable day, you really put a lot of work into the show.

Regards,

Christine Anderson (Visitor)

Congrats on a great show.

Even though there was not an easy way to get there as a foreigner, the result made up for it.

Very good organized, good attendance and a nice accommodation.

Thank god Park Inn is no more!

Well done with the show, most enjoyable.
Don’t know yet whether we plan to do this next year in addition to Heathrow, but I’m tempted.

I liked the Audio magazine.

Tell me more   . . . .

Very good show, it was great to be involved at the outset. The only way is up.

What an enjoyable show, we couldn’t believe how many people visited.

It made working the weekend, a delight

Just to say that it was a marvellous Audio Show and the venue exellent.  Out in the country is MUCH better than in London!   Obviously you had large attendance and the parking people were determined to fit me in, with a late morning arrival! Hopefully you can have next years so near to my Milton Keynes.

Just a comment - got lost finding my way around the corridors - did the rooms have clear numbering, related to the map pages in the Audio Mag? Keep up the fine idea - I actually record, mainly classical music, and am impressed by the range of really excellent playback - miles from and more expensive than the really top price mics we use !!!

All the best

Stunning show Roy

Everyone I speak to say’s the same.

It was just so enjoyable walking around and being part of something so positive after such a difficult year.

Well done.

Best show I’ve ever been to, to be honest.
I met a lot of happy suppliers/manufacturers who were chuffed with the turn out.

Well done to you all.

Is there a feedback questionnaire ?
I’d very much like the next copy of Audio.

All the best

. . . the venue itself was great, and easy to lose your bearings, but that’s just the nature of the building. It’s a long day but I would come again, though.

Best Regards

Keith (Visitor)

As Supertramp said so many years ago, “Crisis? What crisis?”, it was indeed difficult to see signs of the global recession at the National Audio Show in Whittlesbury Hall. Valves and vinyl everywhere. Electrostatics and other huge box (and round!) speakers, with equally sized price tags in almost every room. A great show, including the HFW presentations. I was especially heartened to hear that vinyl has moved on technically both from the cutting process and the quality of “quiet” vinyl used.

The icing on the cake was surely to hear the great Rick Wakeman live. I am not a particular Yes fan, being more Purple/Sabbath/Zep, but I was not going to miss this. And a wonderful comedian too. On the one hand we were in stitches with his anecdotes and the next minute we were close to tears with a moving story and musical piece about Chernobyl.

Just a belated note to let you know how enjoyable the show was, I think you made a lot of people eat their words !! Why are people quick to re-judge before the event !!

Many Thanks & Kind Regards

Chris Harris

Whittlebury went well for both BADA and Cabasse and I think you have something good to build on for next year. I have heard many positive comments. Hopefully this will encourage some of the bigger boys (Denon, Pioneer, Onkyo, KEF, B&W etc) to review their budgets!
Maybe this could be a topic for your workshop discussion.

I wish you well and look forward to attending.

Kind regards

Just wanted to drop you a line and congratulate
you & Roy on the Whittlebury Hall event.
I have had some great feedback from friends and clients who attended. I’ll be booking a bedroom to stay over next year.
